Instructions:

Auditions for the Spring Jazz Band will take place through Google Classroom. The Spring Jazz Band will rehearse from 4:00 - 5:00 PM Tuesday through Friday in the Band Room. 

Jazz Band will appear on the students’ schedules as an 8th period class. By auditioning for the Spring Jazz Band, students are committing to attending all rehearsals and performances, upon qualifying for the ensemble. 

The Spring Jazz Band is a graded class for the spring semester and counts as a fine art. 

Accepted instruments are:

Alto Saxophone

Tenor Saxophone

Baritone Saxophone

Trumpet

Trombone

Piano

Guitar

Bass

Drums

Vibraphone
 

Audition steps in order:

1. Join the Google Classroom. The code is lpdt7vs.

2. Saxophone, Trumpet and Trombone players will record a video of themselves performing Billie’s Bounce and Coral. Students will perform the melody one time, solo for one chorus and then repeat the melody. Students must use a backing track. Backing tracks can be found on Youtube. The backing track must be heard in the video.

3. Bass players will also perform Billie’s Bounce and Coral. Bass players will perform a walking bass line for 1 chorus, a solo for a second chorus and a walking bass line for the third chorus. Students must use a backing track. Backing tracks can be found on Youtube. The backing track must be heard in the video.

4. Vibraphone, Guitar and piano players will also perform Billie’s Bounce and Coral. Vibraphone, Guitar and piano musicians will perform the melody on the first chorus, a solo on the second chorus and comping on the third chorus. Students must use a backing track. Backing tracks can be found on Youtube. The backing track must be heard in the video.

5. Drummers will submit three videos. Students will perform a swing pattern, Latin pattern and brushes pattern. Drummers will perform each pattern for one minute minimum. Drummers can perform each pattern at a tempo of their choosing.
